A Day With Indy

Oddly enough, the journey from Tatooine to The Temple of Doom is roughly 7 minutes. That's where I spent my time today. The Outpost. My dream before coming out here was to work in the Indiana Jones store and whip children with rubber snakes. Sadly, it's against cast regulation to whip the guests. But, it's perfectly okay to whip yourself. So, I spent the day with a snake. I prefer welts over poison anyway. I also had the time to contemplate if people ever confused Indy with indie. But the best part of my day? Staring at this bad boy hanging on the wall:

And this one:

Usually, I prefer a sharp dressed man. But, I think today was an exception... Joyous irony; I get to look at Harrison Ford at Tatooine and The Temple of Doom. How did I get so lucky?

Missionary Work

For the first time in a long time, I am surrounded by non-Mormons. It's really different and interesting and fun! I learned how to make coffee the other day and all my co-workers were in disbelief I'd never tried coffee or tea. I learned what "mocha" and "latte" and all those other foreign words meant. To work in the College Program at Disney you have to have "full availability" which to me means: working on Sundays. As a Latter-Day Saint I REALLY didn't want to have to do that and have been working my butt off to make sure I don't. It's hard! All my managers are respectful and my co-workers are usually willing to help me out, but it takes a lot of work. So it has given me an opportunity to share my beliefs with others. It's exciting. But....it's also a little scary. It's a hard thing for me to put something so personal and passionate of mine in someone else's lap and give them the opportunity to accept or reject it. I've been working on it though. Today I gave out my first Mormon.org card to a friend on the bus. Oh, it was so much harder than I thought it would be. I was shaking. But, my religion is the most important thing in my life. I live for it. Something so beautiful is meant to be shared.

Check it out: Mormon.org

And....

Pray for me to have more strength :)

Be My Guest

Take a look at one of my favorite Hollywood Studios shows. Basically, the whole plot of Beauty and the Beast is crammed into 25 minutes of cheesiness. I wish I was here for this particular performance...

May The Force Be With You

Today, I got to spend the day on Tatooine. Most of my day I was with young Jedi's preparing their lightsabers and asking people about their 5 minute journey through the Galaxy. We get a lot of strange people who stop by. Particularly Brazilian tourists. They love Tatooine. Saber battles are especially fun when the Star Wars theme song plays in the background. The young Jedi's, for some reason, love Darth Vader and Darth Maul. Mace Windu is definitely the least popular followed by Obi-Wan. And let me tell ya, double lightsabers are "in". I'm slightly worried for our planets future since the rising generation seem to be fascinated by the Dark Side. Good thing there's about a thousand shirts hanging up that read "Judge me by my size, do you?", reminding people that Yoda is always watching. Even when he's dead.

I never thought I would work on another planet in my lifetime. Technology these day. Crazy, eh?

Well, have a MAGICAL day!

And may the force be with you.

To My Future Grandchildren

"Dear Shelby,
The White House has asked the Walt Disney World Resort to host President Obama for an event at Magic Kingdom Park tomorrow, Jan. 19. We are honored to accommodate the request.
Walt Disney World Operations"
Wow. I am going to be working in Disney World when the President of the United States makes a speech there. No way. This is incredible.

Joy in the Journey

After sleeping over at the Salt Lake City airport because my flight fell through, going through Utah, California, Vegas, North Carolina by myself, and finally arriving in Florida 24 hours after I started traveling; then, almost getting kicked out of my hotel because I wasn't old enough to check in and sleeping for five hours before a day of background checking, fingerprinting, and line-waiting; also, no food except my Starburst packet and fiber bar I packed; getting stopped by the cops while running into an apartment I wasn't allowed in because I didn't realize I needed housing ID and pulling luggage of about 150lbs with me everywhere I went; you would think it was hard for me to have joy in my journey. But it was AWESOME. Coolest adventure EVER! Even though taxi's are SUPER expensive and Florida water is nasty. I am so excited to live here and experience all these new things. Take a look at my new place:

(my apartment is blue though)

Real nice, ya? I had to pack my bedding in my suitcase...so this is all that would fit. But hey, at least it's not an airport :)

For some reason they decided to take my picture REALLY close to my face. Not sure why. Anywho, I almost got tackled by the police for not having this thing. Go Florida!

Yesterday I got my assignment. I'm supposed to work at Blizzards Beach, but the beach is closed for Winter! So for two months I will work at Hollywood Studios and then move the Blizzards Beach in March. Crazy Crazy. I have a Traditions Class tomorrows. I'm going for FREE to Magical Kingdom Thursday, then I start training on Friday.

WOW.

Wow.

This is the best.

Happy New Years!

I've never really seen the joy in New Years Eve. Every year the same thing happens. You waste a bunch of time trying to party but don't actually drink alcohol (religious beliefs) and you don't like soda. You try to sip a little Martenelli's for the occasion and maybe make a tinfoil hat and blow some streamers. Finally, midnight arrives and you haven't accomplished anything except perhaps stretching your creativity thinking of all the "last things" you are doing that year, like: MY LAST BREATH IN 2011!!!! Or, MY LAST TIME TO BURP. OR QUOTE SCRIPTURE. OR DANCE. OR RUN AROUND IN A CIRCLE. OR PUT SNOW DOWN SOMEONE'S BACK. Of course, these things are all yelled as you accomplish them and made to sound as if it's the most epic thing you've ever done. When really, none of those things matter at all and you just end up tired from over exertion and feel bad for putting snow down someone's back. You always stand outside in the freezing cold when midnight brings in the new year and you scream and yell, trying to out-scream the house next to you while a couple fireworks go off. Then, everyone trudges inside secretly disappointed about that one second of time that the past 6 hours of nothing led up to. Afterwards, you feel like you have to party super hard for the next couple hours to start off the year the right way. Really though, you wake up the next morning tired and emotional for the first day of the year. The last night was a disaster for cops and you prayed the entire day no one would get hurt, you didn't accomplish anything, and you ate too much. Least favorite holiday of the year. Definitely.

The only this that I like about New Years is goals. A fresh start. A clean slate. A chance to do better.

Happy New Years!
