Life By Way of Disney

For the first time in history, Walt Disney World stayed open for 24 hours in honor of Leap Day. It was insane. I was riding Pirates at 3 o' clock in the morning. They had tons of special events and I spent about an hour doing the Macarena in front of the castle. How cool? Actually, I kind of wish I didn't go because I still haven't recovered from lack of sleep. But now I have this sweet pin! (see below). I'm hoping in fifty years that night was all worth it because some crazy Disney fanatic will buy this pin from me for a million bucks.

On a different note, I received the most wonderful compliment today. I was going about my business, selling water bottles and spinny R2-D2's; when a woman came up to buy something from me and said, as I was taking her money, "You have beautiful eyes". I smiled and said "Thank You", obviously. But she went on! She proceeds to tell me she works for Disney too, in Character Auditions. I am intrigued and sit and listen to her and she states that I would be the PERFECT Cinderella and she has no idea why I am working Merchandise and should go audition RIGHT NOW. What?! How crazy cool is that! She then analyzed my eyes, complexion, and smile while I stared dumb-founded and didn't return her change. My heart basically melted in that moment. I mean, at Disney World calling someone "princess", isn't so much of a pet name but another term for any girl you come in contact with. But being told by a Cast Member who works in Character Auditions I have the perfect Cinderella face; what could be better?! So she left and I looked at my R2D2 spinny toy and realized the truly glamorous Disney life I had chosen. "R2D2, or Cinderella?" I kept asking myself. Dang.

At least when I play with my R2D2 toy I can look at Harrison Ford.....right?

For The Love...

I love Valentines Day. I never have boyfriends or anything special, I just love it because everyone is silly and fun and expressing their love for each other. I love love. Everyone does. So why not celebrate it? Last week I realized I probably wasn't going to do much for Valentines day because of work and I live with five girls, etc. So I bought myself some delicious dark Dove chocolates. Mm. My favorite thing about these chocolates are the cheesy sayings I get to read every time I eat one. Like "Share a secret", "Exercise your heart", "Remember your first crush", or, as it says above, "Do something spontaneous". I don't necessarily think Dove Inc. has the greatest advice. Like "The best love in life is chocolate". Talk about advertisement. But, when I ripped open my package of chocolates I decided that the first saying I read, I would do.

Do something spontaneous.

That has been my goal this week. The night I opened that chocolate I came home from work, threw a swimsuit in a bag, hopped on a bus and went to the Contemporary Resort and hot-tubbed with a babish 23 year-old. Valentines night I basically had a girls night and hopped on another bus and watched The Vow. What a beautiful story. Then yesterday I got lost at The Swan and Dolphin resort, watched two handsome men play the guitar, went on a ferry boat across a lake with fireworks above me, walked along a beach bare-footed, ate an ice cream cone with jazz playing in the background standing on a pavilion over-looking a lake. It was stunning. Romantic. And....I'd say pretty spontaneous. I need to have this goal more often... :)

To My Future Grandchildren

"Dear Shelby,
The White House has asked the Walt Disney World Resort to host President Obama for an event at Magic Kingdom Park tomorrow, Jan. 19. We are honored to accommodate the request.
Walt Disney World Operations"
Wow. I am going to be working in Disney World when the President of the United States makes a speech there. No way. This is incredible.

Joy in the Journey

After sleeping over at the Salt Lake City airport because my flight fell through, going through Utah, California, Vegas, North Carolina by myself, and finally arriving in Florida 24 hours after I started traveling; then, almost getting kicked out of my hotel because I wasn't old enough to check in and sleeping for five hours before a day of background checking, fingerprinting, and line-waiting; also, no food except my Starburst packet and fiber bar I packed; getting stopped by the cops while running into an apartment I wasn't allowed in because I didn't realize I needed housing ID and pulling luggage of about 150lbs with me everywhere I went; you would think it was hard for me to have joy in my journey. But it was AWESOME. Coolest adventure EVER! Even though taxi's are SUPER expensive and Florida water is nasty. I am so excited to live here and experience all these new things. Take a look at my new place:

(my apartment is blue though)

Real nice, ya? I had to pack my bedding in my suitcase...so this is all that would fit. But hey, at least it's not an airport :)

For some reason they decided to take my picture REALLY close to my face. Not sure why. Anywho, I almost got tackled by the police for not having this thing. Go Florida!

Yesterday I got my assignment. I'm supposed to work at Blizzards Beach, but the beach is closed for Winter! So for two months I will work at Hollywood Studios and then move the Blizzards Beach in March. Crazy Crazy. I have a Traditions Class tomorrows. I'm going for FREE to Magical Kingdom Thursday, then I start training on Friday.

WOW.

Wow.

This is the best.

It's Official

I'm moving.

January 9th, to "The City Beautiful", "O-Town", swamp-land, the second most popular vacation spot in the country...

Orlando, Florida.

CRAZY, huh?!

I have been hired by Walt Disney World Resort as a Merchandise Salesperson. Woo! Ya, I know it would probably have been cooler if I told you I was hired as Mary Poppins or something, but.....merchandise selling will be just as exciting...hopefully. Maybe I will work in the Indiana Jones store and get to dress up all cool and whip children with those rubber snake things as I make the laaaaaaazzy eye at them. Or, perhaps, I will just be selling popcorn. Who knows?! Either way, I'll be in Disneyworld every day! Listening to beautiful tunes and feeling magic and happiness all around me.

I can't wait.

Well, I can a little bit...

I mean, this is the first time I will move so far away from home with no one I know. No car. No money. No nothing. In Florida. I'm flying in and living there by myself for four months. It's a little scary. But exciting. What other chance am I going to get? I might as well have ridiculous adventures all over the world before I settle down and get married. It's the opportunity of a lifetime.

Plus, I get to run around Disneyworld whenever I'm not working and ride all the rides. Or, I can lazily sit in Main Street on a bench and watch as all the visitors leave with tired, satisfied, smiles. I'll eat some Ice cream or maybe have a Disney lollipop. Mmmm.

Not to mention I can get my friends and family in for free too. Hmm. Let me know if you are interested ;)

Let the magic begin!
